Metal timber connectors are used to bind timber to timber, timber to steel, timber to concrete. Hot dip galvanization could protect wood connector from corrosion. And hardness of timber connector bracket itself is very important to its quality.
Heavy timber metal connector is made of steel plate, after cutting, bending, flattening, forming, calibrating etc, wood connector is made through punching machine. So hardness of steel plate is the first essential factor to guarantee the quality.
Steel plate is usually hot finished or cold finished (mostly it’s cold finished), e.g.carbon steel plate, alloy steel plate, spiring steel plate, galvanized steel plate, stainless steel plate, cooper plate or aluminum plate etc.
To test hardness of steel plate is to make sure the annealing state of procured steel plate is qualified to make metal timber frame connector.Different stamping process needs different value of hardness of steel plate. Wechsler hardness tester is used to test aluminum alloy plate, when the thickness beyonds 13mm, Barcol hardness tester is used.
Apart form hardness of raw material-steel plate, dies also need high value of hardness and good abrasive resistance, so heat treatment is essential.
